Common Signs Gingivitis

The signs and symptoms of gingivitis are not very obvious and usually go unnoticed for some time. Most people that have gingivitis don‘t have any pain with it and so are not alerted to the condition unless the dentist  informs them. Since the signs of gingivitis are so subtle it is important to concentrate on preventing it with a focus on healthy oral hygiene and constantly monitoring your gum appearance.

What Are the Signs of Gingivitis?

*Frequent bad breath

*Swollen tender gums

*Red gum tissue or red ring around teeth

*A bad taste in your mouth that stays

*Bleeding during brushing or flossing

Even if you don’t happen to see or notice any of these signs of gingivitis you may still have a problem with it.  Visit your dentist a couple times a year for dental exams and professional cleanings. Your dentist or dental hygienist will look for the signs and symptoms of gingivitis that you may not be able to see.

When gingivitis is present and left untreated, it can progress to a more serious gum problem call periodontitis. This can cause loose teeth and eventual tooth loss. Science has shown that untreated gum disease can have other complications such as heart disease or stroke. By keeping a close watch for the signs of gingivitis and inflammation, you will be taking an important step toward oral health. We now know that means keeping your teeth, gums and the rest of your body healthy.
