Sealants For Kids

Sealants for Kids

A sealant is a plastic coating that is applied to chewing surfaces of the back teeth. The chewing surfaces have deep grooves that collect plaque and are not easily cleaned. These are the areas where cavities first get started. The sealant bonds to the pits and grooves of the teeth acting as a barrier to germs and plaque. As long as the sealant remains intact, the tooth surface will be protected from decay.

The treatment is painless and no anesthetic is needed. The first step is to clean the tooth with a sandblaster to remove plaque and stain. The tooth is then coated with gels that allow the sealer to stick to the tooth. The last step is to apply the tooth colored sealer and dry it with our blue curing light. The bite is adjusted for high spots and sometimes may feel a little lumpy for a few days.
